It’s Always a Good Time for “Spring Cleaning”! ~ Guest Post

Seasonal Cleaning Tips ~ Sarah Wallace

Even though Spring has passed, and Summer is upon us, it’s still very beneficial to do some “Spring Cleaning”…or really any season cleaning. The health benefits that come from a clean home are well worth the hours of work put in. It’s a smart idea to get yourself prepped before you begin your cleaning. The Mesothelioma + Asbestos Awareness Center has came up with a few great ideas for preperation, as well as a lost of places to keep in mind while your cleaning routine is in process.

First, get yourself ready with the following:

  • Music: Get yourself pumped up with some great music.
  • Empty house: less people = less distractions.
  • Fresh air: Open up the windows and home there’s a nice breeze!

Next, make a list of the often forgotten, must-clean areas in your house:

  • Under furniture
  • Ceiling fans
  • Heat ducts
  • Behind the toilet
  • Window tracks

I’d also take note of the potential dangers in your home:

  • Cleaning supplies: Keep an eye open for any chemical spills or leaks, particularly underneath the sink or wherever you might store your cleaning products. Also, try to use homemade, organic or natural cleaners to avoid harmful toxins that are often times found in cleaning solutions.
  • Asbestos: It is common for homes built before 1970 to contain asbestos, a fiber that becomes very dangerous when airborne, and can cause a rare cancer called mesothelioma. Common areas for this insulation within ceilings and walls, lining around piping, vinyl floor tiles and exterior roofing and siding. If any of these areas are damaged and you suspect asbestos may be present it is important to contact a professional asbestos abatement company.

Once your cleaning is done you can begin to reap the benefits! Not only is cleaning good for your physical health but mental health as well:

  • Less germs, bacteria and allergens
  • Lowers stress and improves overall mental state
  • Safer home with less clutter and harmful toxins

Hopefully these tips help as you get into your cleaning process. Even if it’s not “Spring” cleaning per say, it’s really helpful to do seasonal home cleanouts to keep your home clean, safe and healthy.
