I decided I will work on getting back my balance. I’m tired of depending on my walker, (my spine is getting curved from stooping over to hold on the handle bars and I can’t have that!) so I am doing exercises to strengthen my feet and leg muscles, along with supplements to help my nervous system.
One of the guys in the Radiation Induced Lumbar Plexopathy Face Book Group got his balance back taking indoor scuba lessons. I’m guessing the pool exercises strengthened his muscles because of the resistance from the water. I don’t know how long it took him but it doesn’t matter. I will use what I have, my body weight as the resistance. There are steps leading up to my front door and I will use them like a “Stair Master.” I’m up to forty reps daily. I hold onto the railing so I don’t fall when I step backwards.
The kitchen sink is now where I stretch my spine and walk on my toes. I hold onto the sink because my ankles are weak and the last thing I need is to break an ankle from falling over! Its working great. I do thirty reps every other day.
I’m soaking my feet in Epsom salts twenty minutes a day. Dr. Axe wrote an article on his blog about the benefits of soaking in Epsom salts (magnesium sulfate) instead of taking a magnesium supplement. Since our skin is the largest organ in our body, it makes sense that we can absorb nutrients through our skin better because our bodies don’t have to break it down in our intestines.
I bought a bag of organic brazil nuts from Sunfood and eat one nut daily. Each nut contains the same amount of selenium as one supplement. I’d rather cut down on the amount of supplements I take and get the nutrients through food.
Each morning I do yoga sitting on the floor, focusing on my legs and spine for at least ten minutes. If I feel stiff in the evening, I do another ten minutes before bed.
I’ll update my progress in thirty days…
Be well!
