Healthy Alternatives to Empty Carbs

I’m always looking for new healthy foods to replace the standard, not-so-nutritious carbs that taste good. I found a few you might like to try as well.

1. Try quinoa instead of rice or pasta: White rice and pasta aren’t very nutritious, and quinoa is a complete protein and contains essential amino acids. I hate to admit it, but it took me a while to try quinoa and now I love it!

2. Shave zucchini into strips using a vegetable peeler and use it in place of spaghetti for your next Italian meal.

3. The next time you workout, reach for a coconut water instead of Gatorade. An 8 ounce can contains the same amount of potassium as a banana and doesn’t have all the extra additives found in Gatorade, even after they removed the controversial brominated vegetable oil.

4. Munch on kale chips instead of potato chips. You can make your own and it’s easy. Lightly Spray clean dried fresh kale with a tiny bit of oil, sprinkle with salt, and bake them for 10 to 15 minutes at an oven preheated to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
